Anyone who knows me in RL (or on the net as well) knows I’m a massive V8 Supercars fan. My favourite driver, person really, was Jason Richards. For a while now Jason has been fighting a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The V8 Supercar family gathered around and set up a website www.bid4jase.com to raise money to help his family, his wife and two daughters (3 and 2) and Jason was going strong. He wouldn’t stop racing. Two weeks ago I attended the Sydney Telstra 500, the last race on the V8 calender for the year, and missed meeting Jason Richards by what turned out to be mere seconds. I felt sure I would see him again. But last night (December 15th) the cancer claimed Jason’s life. He was 35. Jason was a wonderful, funny, genuine guy with a love of life. His death is a loss of not just one of V8 Supercar’s biggest personalities, but one of New Zealand and Australia’s best guys. To me he’ll always be that guy in the photo, a smile etched to his face, and a joke ready to be spouted from his lips. All my love to his wife and family at this time. RIP Jason. I love you mate. Everyone in V8s will never forget you.
